Your water can become contaminated at any point which is why regular testing is advised. This is also extremely important when purchasing a home. Contaminated drinking water can be harmful to your health and costly to remediate.
If your water comes from a public water system or is from a well it is monitored, tested and results reported to federal and state agencies. The results are available to you as the consumer and the water company must notify you if any contaminants that could cause illness or other health affects.
